Animebona (meaning "flow of souls" or "river of souls"), daughter of the Unknown God, is the Entity of Albion. She is known as the Goddess by the Iskai, Danu by the Celts, and Mother Earth by the Mahino and Umajo. It was she who led Canto and others from Earth, through the Land of the Fog, to Albion. She is the consciousness that contains all living beings on Albion. Animenkna is her younger brother.

Albion is considered the body of the Goddess and it is a crime to burrow into the land for stones or metal.

Names[]

Many cultures throughout Albion revere Animebona, or are aware of her in some way:

  • The Iskai believe the Goddess is the Great Consciousness formed by all the spirits of the departed. Most of them believe that after death they will return there; and the more exemplary one's life is, the more of his consciousness will remain when incorporated into the Goddess.
  • The Celts see Danu as the great mother goddess, who is embodied by Albion. She is seen as the source of magic. Qrenno is the symbol of her blessing, when she allowed the Celts to travel to Albion.
  • To the Umajo, the worship of Mother Earth is very important, especially by the Mountain Priests, who placate her to allow them to dig in the earth.

Items[]

There are several items linked to Animebona:

It is rumored that Canto's amulet was also given to him by Danu herself.

Trivia[]

  • The name is likely derived from Proto-Celtic roots animon[1] (soul) and abonâ[2] (river).
  • In real life, Danu is a hypothetical Irish goddess known only from the name Tuatha Dé Danann.
